Download Chords as PDF or print chords as seen on screen

Chordify allows you to download the chords of your favorite tunes as PDF or MIDI. The chord PDF file gives you a chord sheet that you can print easily and use when you do not have internet access. Or you can print the chords as seen on screen. Just hit the print button in the tool bar and you will be given the choice of of downloading a PDF chord sheet or printing out the chords.

Download Chords as MIDI

You can also download a MIDI file of the chords that allows you to listen to the chords and then use them to create your own audio files or customize scores. Just hit the MIDI download button to choose whether to download the quantized or time aligned version (more info below).

MIDI is the industry standard for controlling electronic musical instruments, and it can also be used to create and edit sheet music. As scoring and music production require different software to attain the best results, all MIDI downloads will now comprise of two different files:

  • A quantized version (which already existed) that is great for creating sheet music using any score writing software package (Finale, Sibelius, Musescore, etc.)

  • A brand new time aligned version that will match the exact timings of the original audio recording. This is ideal for importing into a digital audio workstation (Cubase, Ableton, Logic, Pro Tools, etc.) in order to add additional harmonies and you can also use this version to create amazing basslines with the Chordify bassline track.

What you should know when using Chordify MIDIs

There are a few things to keep in mind that will help you to get the most out of the Chordify MIDIs:

  • Set your digital audio workstation to use the right tempo. Setting your workstation to the right tempo is important to get the right chord timings. Unfortunately, not all workstations import this tempo automatically from the MIDI data, and it might be necessary to manually set the tempo of your project. To make this as easy as possible the downloaded MIDI file name will contain the right tempo.

  • To create AMAZING basslines with the Chordify bassline track, open a time aligned MIDI file in your audio workstation. You will find two tracks: one track with the upper notes of the chords, and another track with the bass notes of the chords. Having two tracks makes it easy to assign different instruments to the chords and the bass line.

Transpose chords (with capo hints)

If you find the chords too hard to play, or would rather sing along in a different key, you can now easily transpose the chords to your preferred key. Just click the up or down arrows in the transpose tool to transpose all the chords one semitone up or down. A number indicates whether you are in the original key (zero), or transpose up (a positive number of semitones) or down (a negative number). After transposing the chords, if you then click the diagrams button, you will see where to place the capo on your guitar so that you can play the chords you see on Chordify, but hear them in the original key of the song.

Play back chords

Another cool feature of Chordify Premium is the ability to play back the chords identified by Chordify. This allows you to quickly judge whether the chord is correct or not. If you press the “song” speaker, you can mute/unmute the playback of the song itself. The “chords” speaker, muted by default, can be pressed to unmute the playback of the recognised chords. These will be played as pre-recorded piano samples. Note that if you first transpose the chords, and then activate their playback, they are unlikely to sound good together with the original song!

Change playback speed

The “speed” dialog allows you to play the song faster or slower. The number in the centre displays the current speed as a ratio of the original speed: 1 means original speed, 0.5 means half the speed, 2 means double the speed, etc. Pressing the left and right arrows slows down / speeds up theplayback. Depending on the song source (YouTube or not), you’ll have different speeds available to choose from.

All commercial advertisements are disabled for Chordify Premium users. Since backgrounds are part of the Chordify experience, we still show our own “staff pick” wallpapers, linking to their source only in the small right hand bar.
