The hangover has passed and we can look back at Eurosonic Noorderslag (ESNS) with a lucid mind; a week full of prizes, live sessions, gado gado, and phat parties. As always, we are happy that we could contribute to this awesome festival.
Every year, the European music industry gathers during a cold week in January to look at, and enjoy, the most promising acts of the coming year. It is the showcase festival where you see tomorrow’s talent in the streets, bars, venues and crowded record stores of Groningen. We’ve summed up our nicest moments.
Best Innovation
In contrast to previous years, when Eurosonic kicked off on Wednesday, we started on Tuesday this time. At the Northern Pop Gala; a gathering of the creative sector of the northern parts of the Netherlands.
Because we were nominated for an award in the category Best Innovation, that we also took home. A good start for a week full of partying and hanging around at our very own temporary venue, the Music & Tech Hideout.
Electrosonic
Electrosonic is our contribution to the Eurosonic Extra program. Just like last year, we have put together a lineup of some interesting European electronic live acts. This time the evening consisted of Go March (BE), Alcuna (UK), Zuco 103 (NL), and Lilø (NL).
After that, Kayleigh (NL) stole the show with her singing gloves, a.k.a cyber gloves, that she used to produce tones and make music. Video artist HACHE from DATmag. documented and visually summarized the evening in his own unique style. Check it out.
IDK x Chordify Sessions
During the week we had a container studio next to the Artist Village of ESNS at our disposal. Together with some friends from In The Thrift Shop (In de Kringloop, IDK) we exploited this opportunity and recorded some live sessions with some remarkable musicians.
These sessions will be released through our social pages and blog. We can already lift the veil slightly and tell you that Whispering Sons (BE), Vivii (SE), Nova Twins (GB), and EUT came to visit us at our studio.
EUT was an exception because they had put forth the outlandish idea of performing in the top of the Martini Tower, together with the organ player of the tower. Windier than our container, but worth every step of the long stairwell we had to climb (with gear) to get there.
Gado Gado Party
After a pleasant conversation with Thomas Azier, about his new record “Stray” and the state of the music industry, the Music & Tech Hideout hosted the Gado Gado Party. For five years this has been the traditional closing of our part of the ESNS festivities.
So on Friday we order gado gado and invited our friends to join us in eating, drinking and listening to live music. This year the lineup consisted of The Dawn Brothers, Gurr, and Black Dynamite Soundsystem.
