This group was formed in the 1990s by school friends Thomas Mars (vocals), Deck d’Arcy (bass) and Chris Mazzalai (guitar), who had been playing together as a so-called “garage band” in Mars’ house in Versaille, the suburbs of Paris. Mazzaalai’s older brother Laurent Brancowitz, who also plays the guitar, joined the trio in 1995. Fun fact: Did you know that Phoenix has roots in the electronic music duo Daft Punk?
