As summer is closing in, let’s take a look at the top 10 songs of May. There’s not too much change from last month, but there’s a few new additions amongst a list of evergreen tracks. Read on for your jamming inspiration!

The Beatles return

Back in the top 10 songs of May is (arguably) the biggest band of all time – The Beatles. The classic track Let It Be has made it to number 10 after quite some time without appearing in the monthly list.

This is the title track of their final album, released in 1970. The photo used at the top of the article is from their famous rooftop concert at their Apple Corps headquarters in London – three of the tracks recorded at the concert were used on the album.

In the song itself, the vocal melodies are perfect with the main piano accompaniment; the phrasing complimented with the uplifting lyrical sentiments. It is a fairly basic arrangement which gives the vocals the space they deserve, and the chorus refrain is arguably one of the most well known. It’s one of those catchy hooks you can’t resist joining in with!

The chord progression does feature some tricky slash chords, but it can be a nice challenge for intermediate players or beginners looking to take the next step. The song also features a memorable blues rock guitar solo from George Harrison which is a lot of fun to play along with. Listen to Let It Be here!

Peruvian flavors provide contrast

Entering the top 10 for the first time is Peruvian group La Única Tropical, with their track Partido En Dos. This is quite a traditional South American pop song with a lot of brass and varying instruments in the arrangements alongside group vocals, creating a fun atmosphere for the song.

There are also elements of rock influence in the track with overdriven electric guitar parts, and this blended with the percussion instruments and synthesizers creates an interesting result.

The chord progression in the song is quite straightforward so would be suitable for every level of player. It’s a nice track to try and create some different vibes on your instrument, and there’s also freedom for lead parts and improvisation towards the end of the song. Check out Partido En Dos here!

Classic Chordify tracks

As mentioned at the top of the article, there isn’t too much movement in the top 10 songs of May with a lot of tracks returning from last month. Amy Winehouse, Miley Cyrus and R.E.M are all there, stalwart classics with the Chordify community.

However, Creedence Clearwater Revival have returned with their well known track Have You Ever Seen The Rain? and Ed Sheeran also returns to the top 10 after quite an absence with Perfect.
