A couple of weeks ago, the surviving band members of Queen announced on their website that the production of the long awaited movie, about the life of legendary singer Freddie Mercury, has finally started. 
Queen fans have been waiting for this news for about 12 years, because it was one of those movies stuck in developmental hell and never made it to the production phase. Until now! Bryan Singer (who also directed The Usual Suspects and most of the X-Men franchise) is going to direct it and Mr. Robot star Rami Malek will take on the role of the iconic Freddie Mercury. Initially, Sacha Baron Cohen was supposed to play Mercury, which makes sense, because if you dress up Borat in glitter and make him drop the accent, the resemblance is pretty uncanny. Cohen dropped out, however, supposedly because he had a falling out with the Queen band members about the artistic direction. Cohen wanted a movie about the darker side of Freddie, while the band members wanted to focus on the fame, the music and the good times. Filming in September No release date has been announced just yet, but pre-production started two weeks ago. Principal photography (the actual filming) is expected to start in London this September and Queen guitarist Brian May said the movie will come out in 2018.
