After box-office-successes “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “A Star Is Born,” a new biopic has landed in movieland, “Rocketman.” It serenades the life story of British pianist and songwriter Sir Elton John. The soundtrack contains big hits like “Your Song,” “Sacrifice,” and “Tiny Dancer,” but also a brand-new song; “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again” is written by Elton John and sung by actor Taron Egerton.

Taron Egerton as Elton John in Rocketman

“Rocketman” launched at the renown Cannes film festival. Directly after its premiere Elton John and star of the movie Taron Egerton played the title song, “Rocket Man” during a surprise gig. Which is a great marketing stunt, and it caused the popularity of the movie to skyrocket. Who would have guessed, with a name like that.

But seriously, a biopic about Sir John’s life has been a long time coming, and it’s apparently “based on a true fantasy,” as the slogan reads. It’s directed by Dexter Fletcher and tells John’s rise to superstardom, and the dark side that came with it – addiction and loneliness. Spicy detail: Fletcher also worked on another musical biopic, about Queen. He finished “Bohemian Rhapsody” after Bryan Singer was fired.
