Farewell, long days and warm temperatures. So long, BBQs and endless sunshine. Fall has well and truly arrived, and we want to take a look back at the songs that kept people jamming as they bid adieu to this extraordinary summer.

Over in North America, the talk of the town was the new Netflix hit show “Julie and the Phantoms.” No less than three songs of the musical dramedy have made it into the Top 5, wedged in between two staple songs: “Let Her Go” by Passenger and “Best Part” by H.E.R.

Meanwhile, Europe’s Top 5 sees the return of “Shallow” by Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga to the top spot, with a surprise appearance by John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” At the same time, the inclusion of the quintessential heavy-metal ballad, Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters,” might be signaling that we are in fact wandering into more gloomy territory as temperatures are dropping.

Less surprising is the composition of Africa’s Top 5: featuring, as always, Daddy Lumba and some beautiful gospel music, the mix seems altogether very familiar.

In Oceania, H.E.R.’s “Best Part” still dominates the list, but what really caught our attention is the inclusion of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car.” With how well-loved and popular this song is, it’s a surprise that it has taken until now for it to be featured in a Top 5. Welcome to the show, Tracy!
