The times they are a-changing’ and according to Ghostface Killah the world may never be the same again. Musically, the obvious downside of these times is that tours and festivals are being cancelled. But the creativity of artists in quarantine around the world is proving to be unstoppable, so it is heartwarming to see that new musical initiatives pop up faster than ever.
We have collected some of the most moving, reassuring and beautiful covers out there. Overall this spring is about making the best out of a bad situation.
Suddenly musicians are left to their own devices; in the safe space of their own home, fiddling around with their instruments and imagination. This new situation applies across the board, from the world’s most famous to hobby musicians. For instance, we found Liam Gallagher singing Oasis songs while washing his hands, changing the lyrics to “Wonderwash,” “Champagne Soapernova,” and “Soapersonic.” And there are more.
I Will Survive – Gloria Gaynor
A coronavirus version of Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” about online teaching, made by professor Michael Bruening, who teaches at the Missouri University of Science and Technology.
My Heart Will Go On – Celine Dion
A balcony version of the famous Titanic soundtrack “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion. Performed on piano and saxophone from a balcony in Barcelona. With its great melody and fairly slow chord changes, this song is ideal for a serenade. And because most of us know the lyrics by heart, there’s a good chance of it turning into a sing-along.

I Can’t Get No …
Just when our respect for medical staff can’t get any greater, we stumble upon this Rolling Stones cover. In Essen, Germany, cardiologists set crisis instructions to the melody of “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction,” dubbing it “I Can’t Get No Disinfection.”
Imagine – John Lennon
As so many of us, Gal Gadot (star of “Wonder Woman”) is in self-quarantine as well. When she saw an Italian trumpeter playing “Imagine” from his balcony, she was so moved that she started her own cover of John Lennon’s “Imagine”, together with Jimmy Fallon, Sia, Natalie Portman, Maya Rudolph and many others.
Please Stay Home
Of course it’s not only covers being played. In Spain, three friends are jamming on a rooftop spreading some super chilled reggae vibes along with a clear message: “Please stay home, it’s okay to be alone.” The video also shows a funny solution on how to jam together while being apart.
